Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to make an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is vertically raised. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges to be able to keep the workers safe and help to secure their tools.

The scissor lift has a low profile, best utilized for smooth surfaces such as concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These machinery utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor in order to move the lift and power the lifting apparatus. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, since the lift apparatus only operates the lift vertically.

Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The standard scissor lift and the rough terrain scissor lift use identical lifting technology. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is particularly designed for surfaces which are not even. These units also provide higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain with no trouble.

Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam that elevates both vertically and diagonally. This unit has a small work platform which houses controls in order to operate the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics that move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift model and has off-road capable tires.

Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are connected with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machine has a small work platform or a bucket that is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are made in order to reach on top of and over top of buildings.

Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast so as to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Typically, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled machinery. These machines provide a great solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is really essential to remember that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road application and are limited to vertical movement.
